Today I want to talk about a couple different ways you can create content for your website and for your social media platforms.
The traditional way of creating content is you sit down at a computer and you write a blog post, or whatever kind of copy you need at that time. It could be a blog, it could be an article that goes into a publication, it could be a website copy for your service pages, or some other web page that’s not actually part of a blog on your website.
Don’t Overthink It
I received a task recently at my company, in which the Array team rotates once a week. One person is responsible for coming up with a new piece of content, and this was my week. When I saw the task come to me, I thought, “I’m going to have to sit down, think of something interesting to talk about, come up with an intro, a conclusion, a couple paragraphs in-between, maybe do some research.”
I realized it was going to take a couple hours, and I put it off and I put it off. Then finally, I just grabbed my camera and I started talking about that particular topic, which I already had an idea of what I want to talk about. It’s really simple to just grab your camera and start recording.
Multiply Content – Not Work Hours
What are the benefits of this? One – it’s easy, it’s very fast. I can do this on my commute to or from work. Once you’ve created your video, it can go on YouTube, on your company website, on Twitter, Facebook – all the normal places you would think.
Also, it’s very easy and inexpensive to get a video turned into audio only. Then, if someone prefers audio on a device like their Amazon Echo, as a Flash Brief, SoundCloud, they can listen to all the information you just gave in your video. Not only that, but It’s also very easy, quick and inexpensive to add subtitles to a video. Once you do that, you have text.
This particular video will probably turn into 500, maybe a thousand words, which is about the right length, SEO-wise, for an article. Now you have text. That text can be posted on your website, Twitter, Facebook, the opportunities are endless. Wherever people post text articles, you can use this text.
Being a Social Media Tease (in a good way)
Also, with that text and with this video, you can create teasers. What I mean by a teaser is, I could take this text and this video, and extract probably 10 sentences, or 10 mini topics, and I can post those on social media regularly and refer it back to the text, the audio, or the video.
Teasers can be used in order to get more people to come to your landing pages, or to get more attention to the content you have created across all platforms, as you can see, the opportunities are endless when you are shooting a content video.
With a very, very simple video, that doesn’t take me much time at all, I get a tremendous amount of custom content. Definitely consider whipping out your phone. It’s a little unnatural at first, but it’s great, and it pays dividends.
