Right now we are embarking on a leadership development program. Erik would like to identify the top five highest potential employees and they’re going to get special leadership training. Find out the three qualities Erik is looking for in a great employee at Array Digital.

The three qualities I look for in a great employee at Array Digital, what is happening? I am Erik J. Olson. So if you’re not aware, I run a digital marketing agency named Array Digital and between Array Digital and our sister agency Rival Digital, we have about 20 employees and growing. And right now we are embarking on a leadership development program. And I’ve been tasked with the, the person that we’re doing this with that the company that we’re doing this with to identify the, the top five highest potential employees, and they’re gonna get special leadership training as well, which I’m very, very excited about. We’ve made a big investment and I’m excited to be able to invest in, in our top five people. Now, couple things, couple criteria. It’s not necessarily the people that have been with us the longest, and it’s not necessarily the people that are the most senior in the organization.
These are the top five people who are gonna become are future leaders. So what are the three qualities that I’m looking for and someone that’s going to Excel here at Array Digital or Rival Digital, number one, you have to be a great communicator, right? So if you clam up, if you don’t communicate, if if you walk away from situations, you don’t get your thoughts out. If you can’t persuade people, if you’re not a good communicator. And if you can’t connect with people, I mean, it may be great that you can sling some code or you can write some social media posts or whatever it is that you do here. And there’s a lot of different things that we do here, but if you’re not a great communicator, then you can’t really like influence other people and you can’t necessarily get your thoughts across in an effective way.
So I’m looking for people that are very good communicators internally and also externally with our clients. And that last part is very, very important because some of our clients, they’re very difficult to deal with. So if you can’t communicate with them and you’re always like, we gotta, we gotta fire these people. Well, that’s a problem. Like I need someone that can kinda work through the challenges of communicating with other human beings. So you’ve gotta be a great communicator. Number two, you have to be persistent. Right. And what I mean by that is there’s a lot of times here where like, there’ll be back and forth, back and forth, back and forth on like an email thread or like a task. And these things will just span for weeks or months. And sometimes you’re like, I can’t believe I’ve spent the last three months asking for this little change and I keep going back and forth with this person.
They’re not doing anything to really like move the ball forward. They’re just asking me questions. It just delays. If they’re not persistent in getting the job done, and I need someone that’s gonna like take a task, be persistent, get it done and document what they do. Right. So that’s another big, big thing that I’m looking for. Someone that is persistent, not only in their own work to get it done as quickly as possible with urgency, which is one of our core values, but to document how they did it. So that next time they could be more effective and
Efficient or they can train people, right? So persistence in your work and the quality of your work and the urgency of your work are very, very important. And for me, they all kind of wrap up together into one. Number three is I want someone that has some ambition, right? So if you’re the kind of person who’s just like, yeah, I mean, I could do whatever here, you know, I could, I could scrub the toilets or I could, I could sell or what, I don’t really care. I, whatever, whatever you need. I, I just, I just want, I just wanna work if you’re someone like that, I, I’m not really that interested, you know, like it’s great to have people that fulfill a position all positions need to be filled, but I’m looking for people that have some ambition in their career with their personal goals, with their professional goals, with their financial goals, they like want to accomplish things.
Now, sometimes it’s a challenge because we don’t have opportunities at the moment when they’re searching for opportunities. But what I wanna do is have people that are always looking for opportunities that are ambitious, that are here so that when we have an opportunity and if they’re good, persistent, great communicators and their patient, I can provide that to them. So I’m looking for people that are very ambitious with their personal professional and financial goals so that I can align with their goals and vice versa. So those are the three qualities that I’m looking for and a great employee here at Array Digital and Rival Digital. And then for anyone who’s listening, I, these are, these are probably pretty basic things that like a supervisor or CEO is looking for or a leader in your company, right? This is what they wanna see out of good employees.
This is like, when they, when they kinda like say, all right, here’s, here’s the good employees, the great ones that we’re gonna give opportunities to. And then here’s everybody else. It’s just kinda like what separates. Right? So and it’s not, it’s not necessarily that having these qualities is good or bad. It’s just the people that have these qualities are gonna get, they’re gonna get more out of life. They’re gonna get more out their careers. They’re gonna get more out of their finances. So cell think about those things and see how you could apply them to your daily life.
