Listen to Erik share why you need a personal brand in this episode.
Erik J. Olson (00:01):
Why you need a personal brand right now, what is happening? I am Erik J. Olson. All right. So let’s discuss a personal brand versus a company brand. So company brand is obviously for your company, that’s all the branding, the logo, your website, who you are as a company, what you do and who you do it for and how you do it now as a personal brand, that is your own personal self, right? So that’s how you carry yourself. That’s how you represent yourself. That is the attention that you yourself get now as a business owner, as someone in business, should you have a personal brand? The answer is unequivocally. Yes, absolutely. You need a personal brand in one form or another. Now, if you are a business owner, then the reason that you need a business or a personal brand is because you want to attract as much attention as possible to yourself in order to then send that attention to your business.
Erik J. Olson (01:06):
Now, here’s what I mean. If, as a person I can attract followers and I can get my message out about what I’m doing. Then when I’m really doing with my personal brand is yes, I’m, I’m attracting attention to myself, but I’m doing it for a purpose. And the purpose is to let people know about my company, Array Digital and my sister agency Rival Digital. I want people to know who we are, what we do, who we do it for so that when they need to service like that, they know to reach out to Erik J. Olson. So you should absolutely have a personal brand. If you are a business owner or you are going into business for yourself, if you’re not a business owner, if you’re a manager or even just anybody in business, you should have a personal brand. Because when someone goes to consider you for employment, they will look you up.
Erik J. Olson (01:57):
So when someone applies here at Array Digital, I look them up on the internet. If I cannot find this person. And by the way, this goes beyond employment. This has to do with like partners or some company that I may be hiring. But if I can’t find you on the internet, then all of a sudden, like my little spy senses are set off, like, who is this guy or gal? How come they don’t exist on the internet? Any blah, on the internet and what the hell have they been up to for the last couple years? And, and I start to go kind of to a negative place. How can someone exist these days? And they’re not on the internet, they don’t post, they don’t have any social media. It’s kind of weird, frankly. Right? So I want to get a sense of what a person is like through their personal brand before I have contact with them. And certainly before I consummate any kind of deal, I need to know who they are. So your personal brand should be very clear. It should be very helpful to your audience and it should be positive. That’s something that I was speaking with Matt. Cratos here at Rival Digital
Erik J. Olson (02:58):
Recently about, and he has an opinion that personal brands should be positive in nature. And I agree you don’t wanna be that, that guy. That’s always bitching about politics, the economy, I lost my job. My dog got run, like who wants to hear that? Man put positive vibes out in the universe and positive things will happen to you. So back to the question, should you have a personal brand in business? And the answer is absolutely unequivocally. Yes. If you don’t have one, start one. Now, if you don’t know what to talk about, start a podcast. Like I am the reason, one of the big reasons that I’m doing this podcast is so I have something to say and a platform to say it on. Now, granted, I’m here to help people who listen. I wanna share my experience with you. I’ve been in business for 13 years now.
Erik J. Olson (03:47):
Self-Employed, I’ve learned a lot. I’ve screwed up a lot and I don’t want you to make the same mistakes. So that’s a huge reason as well, but it’s a platform for me to get the word out about whatever’s on my mind. Whenever I wanna say it, that is incredibly powerful. And then, you know, this all gets chopped up into a podcast, social media articles, you name it. We can reuse this content forever, but if I didn’t have a platform, if I didn’t have a personal brand, it would be very difficult to figure out what to say and when to say it and who to say it to. So start your personal brand today.
