Erik J. Olson (00:01):
Moving our newsletter to HubSpot. What’s happening? It’s Erik J. Olson. You know, every single day I come to work and I’ve got this list of things that I want. Do I create it in the morning? I get up at five o’clock in the morning and one of the first things I do every day is I write down my goals, the habits that I wanna keep performing. These are the good habits that I have, and then my power list of usually five, as many as eight different items. And, and then I, I come into the office eventually and I I start to execute on those things. So I pre-plan what I want do with the intent that I can maintain, focus on what I think is important versus the urgent that inevitably comes in every single day, but sometimes I get distracted by the urgent. And Tuesday was one of those days where I had a whole list of things that I wanted to do, but the urgent got my attention.
(00:55):
Now, that was where Kevin and I on that day, decided that we were going to move our contacts from MailChimp to HubSpot. And it sounds like a minor thing, but it turned to be a, a big effort. When we did that, we discovered that several emails had some characters in front of them that should not be there. There was about 350 or so. And the best way that we knew to, to fix that as quickly as possible without like some big experiment, was just to manually slug it out. And so Kevin started the top of the list. I started at the bottom of the list and we started to fix all these email addresses. And when we were in there, we started to see some patterns and, and we started to add to our, our mailing camp campaign list people that had indicated that they were interested in our law firm marketing services.
(01:45):
And we got our list like much bigger than we actually thought, just not only from the import, but from mining the data that’s in our crm. So we’re at the point now where all of our email addresses for all the people that have indicated that they’re interested in what we do. It’s all in HubSpot, which is amazing. We’re getting ready to shut down our MailChimp. But it’s amazing because now everything is unified. And what that means is we can just send the newsletters out through HubSpot. That’s not as big of a deal as the fact that we can now track who received what newsletter. Did they open it? Do they click on it? What do they do after they clicked on it on the website? Do they click from here to here, to here, to here? And we can start to track what people are doing at a very granular level. And it gives us amazing fidelity when it comes to making marketing decisions. So yeah, some days you stick to the plan, some days you change the plan. I don’t really like changing plans, but I’ll do it when it’s important and urgent.
