Erik J. Olson (00:01):

You just have to keep in touch with people, you know, what is happening? This is Erik J. Olson. So today’s a good example of why I say you had to keep in touch with people that, you know, so first of all, like at the beginning of my day, I went to lunch or to breakfast with Eric Thomas. He is the President of Rival Digital and we connected a, we were talking about goals, right? Like what are his goals? What are my goals? And so we got on the same page when it came to discussing our goals and to a certain extent, even like setting our goals, because the more you discuss with people, what your goals are and what their goals are, the more you kind of like, especially if you work together, the more they kind of like merge into one set of goals. So that, that was an, an excellent example of like getting together with people that I know for lunch today, I met with someone else.

(00:47):

He is a previous client. He now works for an investment company. They raise capital and then they buy businesses. And we were swapping, you know, war stories about working with clients and different kinds of businesses, which ones are cash producing machines, which ones are not, which ones can be outsourced by automation or a place like Walmart or Amazon. And this is all like, really good information that I’m gathering just by keeping in touch with someone. So that’s the second example from today where keeping in touch with someone has led to something positive for me. And then the third one is just now I just got off the phone with a listing agent. This is someone who lists apartment buildings for a living that’s their profession. And this is someone that I, I, I was trying to get a deal. It didn’t work out the numbers weren’t right for me.

(01:36):

But I kept in touch with this listing agent. I kept texting him. I kept like calling him. He told me that he is got an off market deal that he’s working on. And so I just called him outta the blue. So even though the other deal that I was trying to get, like I wasn’t, I ended up not getting it. I kept in touch with this guy, and now he has an off market deal, apartment deal, 24 units, which he’s gonna send to me, his marketing material is not even ready yet. He’s like, yeah, it’ll be ready in like a week or so. And then I’ll send it to you. I’m like, Hey, can I, can I just get the address down? And so he’s gonna send it over to me. And so for me, it’s very exciting that just by keeping in touch with people that I know people in my power base, if you will, that there’s a benefit to doing that.

(02:20):

There’s a benefit for them. There’s a benefit for me. And I think it’s just too easy, especially in this post COVID world that we live in, where no one wants to leave their freaking house. You wanna work remotely. You just wanna talk to people that are in your company and you don’t get out and about, you’re losing a huge opportunity here at a minimum. You gotta pick up this thing that you carry around with you twenty four seven, this phone, and you gotta make phone calls to people, right? So like reactivate your power base. We all have a power base and you need to activate and reactivate and culture it and keep in touch with the people that that can help you achieve your goals. If you’re

(02:58):

Like, like me, you’ve got big goals and you can’t do it alone. You have to collaborate with people, figure out who your power base is. These are people that you’ve worked with in the past, people that you were friends with in the past, people you went to school with current clients past clients start thinking about who is in your power base and reach out to them. Even if you haven’t reached out to them in years, just reach out, check in, say hi, wanna see how you’re doing, how the family’s doing, how your how’s your business doing. Just check in. They’ll ask you the same thing about what you were up to, and you can share with them what you’re doing and your dreams and your ambitions and your goals, and who knows. Maybe there’s an opportunity to collaborate or for them to get in on something with you, reactivate your power base, keep in touch with people that can help you achieve your goals.
