In this episode, Erik shares why you need a fast website and how to evaluate your website.
Erik J. Olson (00:01):
Why you need the fastest website possible? What is happening? I am Erik J. Olson. So in this day and age where we are going from 4G on our cell phones to 5G, and the bandwidth is just way bigger, way more powerful way. Bigger pipe does a fast website matter anymore. The answer is absolutely a fast website matters. You need a fast website and the faster, the better it should be like almost instantaneous. Now, when it comes to SEO value, what we’re really going after here is a website that was in two seconds here at Array Digital. We used to say three seconds, but Google has new guidelines and they want it to load in two seconds. Now, why is this an SEO thing? Well, Google evaluates your website against all the other who knows how many millions of websites there are out there. Actually, I’m sure I could Google and find out how many millions there are, but I don’t have that number on the tip of my tongue.
Erik J. Olson (01:04):
So I’m just gonna be arbitrary here. Say it’s a lot, a lot of millions, right? So when they compare your website to the, a lot of millions that are out there of other websites, they are going to evaluate it based on many different factors, the content that’s on the website, the user experience, like what it’s like for a user to actually use it. The words on the, on the page, the kind of industry you’re after who wrote your articles, do they know, is it you specifically who wrote it or are you just making like general statements and claims in a blog post? All those things matter, speed and mobile responsiveness matter a lot. So these are technical aspects of a website and they matter a whole lot. These days now with 3G, it was difficult to load a website on a phone. 4G is pretty much standard 5G.
Erik J. Olson (01:56):
It’s gonna be almost instantaneous, but if your website is old, clunky, and by old, I mean really more than like four or five years old, it’s old, cuz this technology just changes all the time. But if you did not commission your website specifically to be fast, mobile responsive, and to be SEO high value, then it’s none of those things. So here at Array Digital. Those are big, huge components of what we do. It has too low within two seconds. That’s our goal. Now I’m not saying everything that we produce loads in two seconds because sometimes clients want animation. They want images to fly in and out. They, they want all sorts of stuff and that slows the site down. But our goal is that it renders in two seconds on every single page, you do that and you’re gonna get Google’s attention. And when you get Google’s attention, you will get traffic from Google relevant traffic, which will blow up your business. If you can get traffic
Erik J. Olson (02:58):
From Google to your website, if you can extract value from Google and bring it into your website, bring it into your company, you will blow up your business. As a matter of fact, if you have the number one position for a high value keyword that you’re going after, that is very relevant to your business and you’re offering you’re printing money. That’s how valuable it is. Now, if you want something like that, it’s going to take time, resources and effort to get to the number one position, cuz guess what? It’s not just you versus Google. It’s you versus the however many millions of other people that want that number one position, you have to fight for it and you have to put resources behind it in order to get it, but it is absolutely worth it. And fundamental to all that is a fast website. So if you’re interested about how fast your website runs or doesn’t, you can go to go Google this term, Google page speed insights.
Erik J. Olson (03:56):
You’ll go to a Google webpage. You can put in your domain name. It’ll tell you how fast your website loads and a whole bunch of other metrics. And if you’re not happy with it, if you’re not happy with the results, if you’re getting a bunch of red, as far as like the numbers that show up, which you probably are, if this is the first time you’ve run it.
