In this episode, Erik shares how you can control your day.
Erik J. Olson (00:02):
Control the day, or it will control you. What is happening? This is Erik J. Olson. So yeah, if you don’t control your day, it’s going to control you. And that is a fact. And I have seen it happen time after time, hundreds of times, thousands of times where I have not controlled my day and it controls me. And what I mean by that is if you wake up and you just walk into your office as an example, whether it’s a home office or you go to a, a natural real company office, you can commute there. If you just walk in and you’re like, yeah, we’ll just, we’ll see what happens. Well, guess what, something’s gonna happen. Right? Something’s gonna come up. People are gonna throw things at you. And if you don’t have a plan, then you are going to do whatever it gets thrown at you.
So for me, I don’t like that. I really don’t like those kinds of days. As a matter of fact, I hate those kinds of days so much that every morning I get up and I write in my journal right here, and I write down my goals, my habits that I wanna reinforce, and then the powerless for the day, things that I wanna accomplish today, as a matter of fact, it’s 8:32 in the morning right now. I got other stuff I could do. But one of my powerless items is to record five episodes of Journey to $100 Million. So guess what? Instead of like doing some random tasks, looking at the mail that came in yesterday, no one opened yet, instead of doing into that stuff or some other things that I already thought about that are my, are not on my list. I’m going to accomplish this one first.
I wanna put a check in this check box. I’ve got six things that I need to accomplish today outside of what’s in my calendar, right? So I’ve got things that are in my calendar that I’ve already committed to. I’ve got these six powerless items for today, and then I wanna get stuff thrown at me, emails, phone calls, slack messages from the team who knows the thing is like, I don’t know what those things are and I’m not going to just sit around and wait for them. I’m going to control my day. So keep that in mind about time management and what you do with your time and what you do with your day. Most importantly, if you don’t control your day, it will control you.
